Covert Surveillance

One of the most typical services that we envision when we think about the work of a private investigator is covert video and photographic surveillance. The movies and television shows have us conditioned to picture a grizzled and world weary investigator sitting in a parked car for hours on end watching a home or vehicle and waiting for the appearance of the subject. Oftentimes we picture the investigator chain smoking cigarettes and reading a newspaper. In reality, the art of the private investigator has evolved over time and, while there is quite often no better option than sitting and waiting, our clients expect a great deal more. Clients will not accept hours of billing for surveillance with no results. They demand more, and they deserve more. The role of the investigator during a surveillance assignment is to maximize the return on investment for the client. Pre-surveillance investigation should be conducted in an effort to attempt to identify the optimal time and place upon which to conduct the surveillance. Previous surveillance reports should be reviewed and the intelligence gleaned from those reports should assist in the scheduling and strategy for future investigations. Things as seemingly innocuous as children's sports schedules, subject or claimant's leisure activities, hobbies and day to day schedule can provide incredibly useful actionable intelligence for use in effectively scheduling surveillance to maximize results. All too often investigative companies simply assign surveillance to their investigators schedules based upon availability and not with the best interests of the client and their file in mind. All too often, in an effort to realize a profit, investigative providers perform services at days and times that are inconsistent with the intelligence and data provided and identified. Fodera & Associates does not operate in this manner. We make every effort to schedule surveillance on days and times when we reasonable expect the subject or claimant to be not only present, but more importantly, active. We go the extra yard, coordinating efforts in conjunction with the client, adjuster or attorney, and terminating surveillance if no activity is identified within the first few hours on-site. We also conduct an array of covert efforts to determine if the subject or claimant is present before breaking off, while also attempting to identify additional actionable intelligence while on site. Our goal is to develop some intelligence that benefits the client;s investigation during each surveillance block.
